What do we do in the workshop?

In this introductory workshop, our goal is to give you a complete experience, from your first contact with the clay to the final finish of your piece. Whether you've never worked with ceramics or have some experience, our instructors will guide you through every step of the process to make you feel comfortable and enjoy the experience.

1. Introduction to Pottery

At the start of the workshop, we'll give you a brief introduction to the history of ceramics, its evolution over the centuries, and its cultural importance in various civilizations. You'll also learn about the materials used in ceramics, especially clay, and the basic tools you'll need to work with. Through this explanation, you'll become familiar with the process and components that make creating a ceramic piece possible.

2. Modeling the Clay: Touch and Creativity

The first hands-on activity we'll do is modeling the clay. You'll learn how to handle the material, feel its texture, and understand how it behaves when you work with it. We'll work with clay, a malleable material that easily adapts to beginners' hands, allowing you to unleash your creativity.

During this phase, you'll have the chance to create simple shapes, like bowls and plates. There are no limits to what you can create, and most importantly, you'll enjoy the process without worrying about the end result. Here, the key is to experiment and let yourself be carried away by how the clay responds to your hands.

3. Modeling Techniques: Scraping, Stretching, and Kneading

In this phase, the instructors will teach you basic modeling techniques, such as scraping, stretching, and kneading. You'll learn to create textures and details on the surface of your pieces, using simple tools. These techniques will let you customize your creations and give each piece a unique touch.

You'll also learn to work carefully and respectfully with the material, understanding the limits of the clay and how to avoid common mistakes in the process, such as cracks or deformations. Our instructors will be by your side at all times, making sure you understand and safely execute each step.

4. Drying and Firing: Getting ready for the kiln

By the end of the workshop, your pieces will have taken shape, and it's time to prepare them for the next step: drying and firing. Although you won't be able to fire them right away because the clay needs time to dry properly, we'll explain how this process works.

You can leave your pieces in our workshop to be fired, and we'll send them to you later so you can enjoy them in their final version (shipping costs not included in the price)
