Descrição

Explore the Tambopata River at sunset in search of sloths, capybaras, caimans, monkeys, and riverside and fishing birds. After dark, use flashlights to search for wildlife along the riverbanks.
Your adventure begins with pickup from your accommodation in Puerto Maldonado and a short transfer to the river, where you’ll board a motorized canoe with your local naturalist guide.

Cruise along the Tambopata and Madre de Dios rivers as you begin your search for Amazon wildlife. Keep your eyes on the riverside Cecropia trees, a favorite feeding area for the brown-throated three-toed sloth. Your guide will help you spot these slow-moving canopy dwellers using binoculars and a spotting scope, giving you a closer look while keeping a respectful distance. Along the way, watch for monkeys, macaws, herons, kingfishers, and other birds that live and feed along the river.

Continue onto the Tambopata River as the heat of the day begins to fade and wildlife becomes more active. Scan the banks for freshwater turtles, white caimans, and other animals while your guide points out movement and wildlife that can easily be missed from the boat.

As the sun drops toward the rainforest, slow down and enjoy one of the highlights of the trip: sunset over the Tambopata River. Watch the sky change color and reflect across the water as the forest gradually gives way to darkness.

After sunset, the wildlife search continues. With powerful flashlights, scan the riverbanks for the glowing eyes of white caimans as they become more active after dark.

Then head farther along the river in search of capybaras, the world’s largest rodents. Look for them grazing quietly along the riverbank, resting near the water, or slipping into the river. They may appear alone, in pairs, or in small family groups.

On the journey back, experience the Amazon from a completely different perspective. With the river now dark and quiet, listen to the sounds of the rainforest and, on clear nights, look up at a sky filled with stars away from the city lights.

Return to Puerto Maldonado after an evening combining wildlife watching, sunset scenery, and nighttime exploration on the Tambopata River.
All wildlife is observed in its natural habitat. Sightings depend on weather, season, river conditions, and animal activity and cannot be guaranteed.
