Discover the history, landscapes and stonework traditions of Arequipa on a 4-hour guided tour along the Sillar Route. Visit the Yanahuara viewpoint, explore the Añashuayco quarries and discover the petroglyphs of Culebrillas while learning about the volcanic stone that forms an important part of Arequipa’s architectural heritage.

Your tour begins at the Yanahuara viewpoint, one of the city’s traditional viewpoints. From here, enjoy panoramic views of Arequipa and, when weather conditions allow, see the surrounding volcanoes, including Misti, Pichu Pichu and Chachani. The area is also known for its traditional stone arches and views of the city.

Continue to the Añashuayco quarries, located northwest of Arequipa near the foothills of Chachani. This area is known for its deposits of sillar, a light-colored volcanic stone widely used in the construction of historic buildings in Arequipa. Walk through the quarry area and learn how local workers extract and shape the stone. Your guide will explain the role of sillar in the city’s architecture and traditions.

The route then continues to the Culebrillas ravine, an archaeological site known for its rock carvings. Explore the surroundings and observe groups of petroglyphs engraved into the rock surfaces. The designs represent different periods, including pre-Hispanic, colonial and more recent times.

During the visit, your guide will provide an interpretation of the petroglyphs, explaining the characteristics and historical context of the engravings. Take time to observe the details of the carvings and the natural landscape surrounding the ravine.

The tour operates in two daily shifts: from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM or from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM. Transportation and a professional guide are included.

Entrance fees are not included and must be paid separately in cash: S/ 5 for Añashuayco quarries and S/ 8 for Culebrillas.

Bring comfortable walking shoes, light clothing, sunscreen, a hat or cap, sunglasses and a bottle of water. We also recommend carrying cash to pay the entrance fees.
