Your journey begins with a comfortable transfer from your accommodation in Paraty to the coast. From there, the adventure truly starts: you will board a fast boat to cross the Saco do Mamanguá, a unique geographical formation where the emerald sea stretches 8km inland, flanked by steep mountains covered in lush Atlantic Rainforest.
We arrive at Praia do Cruzeiro, a traditional Caiçara community accessible only by sea, where the trail begins.
The Hike The ascent is a direct immersion into nature. Although the distance is short (approx. 1 hour up), the trail is steep, weaving through roots and rocks under the jungle canopy. Your specialized guide leads the way at a steady pace, ensuring safety and pointing out the rich biodiversity of the region.
The Summit Reaching the peak (425 meters / 1,400 ft above sea level) delivers the ultimate reward: a breathtaking 360º panoramic view. From the top, you can see the entire design of the "fjord," the mangrove systems, and the pristine coastline stretching out like a map. It is a moment to disconnect, breathe the mountain air, and take photos that capture the grandeur of Paraty.
The Return After the descent, you will have free time at the base of the mountain. You can take a refreshing dip in the calm waters of the bay or relax on the beach before our boat takes us back to Paraty Mirim and the transfer returns you to your hotel.
Geological Note: While commonly called a "fjord" for its striking scenery, Mamanguá is technically a "ria" (a drowned river valley), shaped by tectonic movements and tropical erosion. It is a rare spectacle of nature found nowhere else in Brazil.

Physical Rating: This hike is rated Moderate to Hard due to the steep incline. Although short (1.5 km), it is a continuous hike up. A basic level of cardio fitness is required.
Food: While light snacks are provided, a full meal is not included. We recommend bringing cash to purchase lunch at the local Caiçara kiosks on Praia do Cruzeiro, as credit card service can be unreliable
What to bring: Please bring at least 1.5L of water per person, sunscreen, insect repellent, and wear sturdy trekking shoes or sneakers with good grip. Flip-flops are not suitable for the trail.
