The Terracotta Army is located in Lintong District, Xi'an, Shaanxi Province, 1.5 kilometers east of the Mausoleum of the First Qin Emperor. As funerary pits for the First Qin Emperor, it was accidentally discovered by local farmers digging a well in 1974.
At present, there are three excavated terracotta army pits, arranged in a shape resembling the Chinese character "品" (pin). Covering a total area of over 20,000 square meters, the site has yielded approximately 8,000 pottery figurines and horses, together with tens of thousands of bronze weapons.
The pottery figurines stand at around 1.8 meters tall. No two figurines share the same face, and each boasts a unique expression. Their costumes and armors differ in line with military ranks, featuring exquisite and meticulous craftsmanship.
Hailed as the Eighth Wonder of the World, the Terracotta Army was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1987. It represents the pinnacle of ancient Chinese sculptural art and stands as a symbol of the formidable military power of the Qin Empire.
