Beskrivning
Spend the night in a private forest log house watching wild brown bears in their natural habitat. 90%+ sighting rate, small group of max 8 guests. Departing from Tallinn.
This is not a zoo. This is wild Estonia — and one of Europe's most extraordinary wildlife encounters.
Your journey begins in Tallinn at 09:00, heading north-east into Lahemaa National Park — one of Europe's oldest protected areas, where ancient forests, manor estates, and traditional fishing villages sit alongside the Baltic coast. First stop is Palmse Manor — a meticulously restored 17th-century estate where golden halls and manicured gardens tell stories of Baltic-German aristocracy. Continuing along the coast, you visit the timeless fishing village of Altja, where wooden cottages still line the shore and traditional coastal life quietly endures. Along the way, your guide makes spontaneous stops whenever something catches the eye — that is how the best discoveries happen.
Before heading inland, you visit Toolse Castle — a striking medieval ruin right on the Baltic Ancient stone walls, sea views, and wild coastal landscape make this one of the most photogenic spots on the Estonian coast. Lunch is at a carefully chosen seaside restaurant — fresh, seasonal, and genuinely local. Not included in the price, everyone orders freely from the menu.
In the afternoon, the road leads deeper inland — into unhurried forests of Alutaguse. Estonia is home to around 1,000 wild brown bears, and Alutaguse holds nearly half of them. Your guide gives a full briefing on bear behaviour — what to expect. Then, quietly, you walk the final 400 metres through the trees to a place very few people ever reach.
Your bear hide awaits — a private log house at the edge of the forest, Inside: sleeping bunks with blankets, electricity, a water-based toilet, and a sensitive outdoor microphone that captures every sound — birdsong, rustling branches, elk calls, and sometimes the unmistakable heavy footfall of a bear approaching.
The first signs may be subtle — a shadow, a movement at the tree line. And then, slowly, a brown bear steps into view. With a 90%+ sighting rate, most guests observe 1–4 different bears over the course of a single night. Foxes, raccoon dogs, and deer are frequent companions as the forest comes alive around you. Dinner is enjoyed quietly inside the hide — a satisfying picnic-style meal included in the price.
Morning in the forest is something else.— often one of the best moments for wildlife. You leave the hide in silence, carrying something hard to put into words. A warm breakfast at a local tavern follows — strong coffee, hot food, and time to share stories from the night.
The second day brings bog walks and forest trails — ancient wetlands stretching to the horizon, wooden boardwalks, and a stillness that is increasingly rare in Europe. Your guide shares the story of Estonia's bogs, their role in local folklore, and what the landscape is quietly offering right now — edible plants, berries, and mushrooms depending on the season. We return to Tallinn at around 17:00.
Small group of maximum 8 guests. Real wilderness. Two days you won't forget.
