Day 1: Addis Ababa – Semera – Hamdeila

Fly from Addis Ababa to Semera and meet your Afar crew upon arrival. Begin your drive to Hamdeila, located in the heart of the spectacular Danakil Depression. Pass dramatic volcanic landscapes, endless lava fields, and vast desert plains along the way. In the afternoon, visit Lake Asale to observe traditional Afar salt mining and camel caravans crossing the salt flats. Enjoy a beautiful sunset over the desert before overnight camping under the open sky.

Day 2: Dallol – Salt Mountains – Erta Ale

Start early with a visit to Dallol, one of the most colorful and surreal geothermal areas on Earth. Explore its vibrant sulfur springs, bubbling pools, and extraordinary mineral formations. Continue to the impressive Salt Mountains shaped naturally by wind and erosion. Later, drive across the desert to Erta Ale, known for its continuously active lava lake. Trek up to the crater at sunset to witness the glowing lava before overnight camping near the volcano.

Day 3: Erta Ale – Mekelle – Hawzen (Abune Yemata)

After breakfast, descend from Erta Ale and begin your drive toward Mekelle. Enjoy the changing scenery as you leave the desert behind and enter the highlands of Tigray. Continue to Hawzen to visit the remarkable cliff-top church of Abune Yemata Guh. Climb the steep rock face with the assistance of a local guide to reach the church perched high above the valley. Admire its ancient frescoes and breathtaking panoramic views before overnight at a hotel in Hawzen or Mekelle.

Day 4: Mekelle – Addis Ababa – Lalibela
Transfer to the airport for your flight back to Addis Ababa. Upon arrival, connect with your onward flight to Lalibela, Ethiopia’s spiritual heart. In the afternoon, begin exploring the first group of Lalibela’s famous rock-hewn churches. Visit impressive sites such as Bet Medhane Alem and Bet Maryam, carved directly from solid rock in the 12th century. Learn about their religious significance and architectural brilliance before overnight at your hotel.

Day 5: Lalibela – Addis Ababa

Spend the morning visiting the second and third groups of Lalibela’s churches. Explore hidden passageways, sacred courtyards, and ancient chapels that form this extraordinary UNESCO World Heritage site. Visit the iconic Bete Giyorgis, famous for its unique cross-shaped design. After lunch, transfer to Lalibela Airport for your return flight to Addis Ababa. Arrive in Addis Ababa where your memorable Ethiopian adventure comes to an end.
