Begin your adventure with a scenic drive to Urantogoo, an extinct volcanic crater surrounded by rolling hills and open steppe. This peaceful area offers beautiful landscapes and a gentle introduction to Mongolia’s northern countryside. Overnight near Urantogoo.

Continue north to Moron, the capital of Khuvsgul province. Upon arrival, arrange the border area permit, required for travel into the remote reindeer region. Enjoy time to explore the town, rest, and prepare for the upcoming wilderness journey.

Drive to Ulaan-Uul village, entering the heart of the Darkhad Valley. Be welcomed by a local Darkhad nomadic family, where you’ll stay overnight. This day is dedicated to preparing for the horseback expedition—meeting the horses, packing supplies, and learning basic riding and travel techniques from experienced local guides.

In the early morning, begin your horseback journey into the untouched taiga forest. Ride through rivers, meadows, and dense larch forests as you head toward the Tsaatan reindeer herders. By evening, arrive at the reindeer camp and stay overnight in a traditional tipi (ortz) with the herders.

Spend a full day living alongside the Tsaatan people, one of the last reindeer-herding cultures in the world. Learn how they care for their reindeer, milk them, move camps, and survive in this harsh yet beautiful environment. This deep cultural experience offers a rare glimpse into a disappearing way of life. Overnight at the reindeer camp.

After a meaningful farewell, begin the horseback ride back through the taiga to the Darkhad nomadic family. Enjoy your final night with the family, sharing stories, traditional meals, and reflecting on your journey.

Travel to the legendary Khuvsgul Lake, often called the “Blue Pearl of Mongolia.” Surrounded by mountains and pine forests, this pristine freshwater lake offers tranquility and stunning scenery. Overnight at a lakeside camp or lodge.

Enjoy a full day at Khuvsgul Lake. Optional activities include hiking, boating, swimming (for the brave), horseback riding along the shore, or simply relaxing while enjoying the peaceful atmosphere. Overnight at the lake.

Begin the return journey south through Bulgan Province, enjoying Mongolia’s changing landscapes one last time, before arriving in Ulaanbaatar, where the tour concludes.
