Beskrivning
This is a vivid storytelling journey through love, control, rumours, and rule-breaking, revealing a past where human behaviour was just as complex, contradictory, and familiar as it is today.
Join The Bergen Historian on a walk through old Bergen on a 90-minute journey through the city’s hidden histories of love, scandal, and rule-breaking. The tour begins at St. Mary`s Church and ends at the Old Bergen Town Hall, passing Bergenhus Fortress, Bryggen, and the Cathedral along the way.
Along the route, you’ll hear stories of sexual morality and its frequent violations, a Church that preached strict ideals while often struggling to live up to them, violence and conflict in a society with limited formal control, alcohol-fuelled disputes, and the everyday choices that shaped life, reputation, and survival in the city.
This is a vivid storytelling experience where history comes alive through real people and real tensions—where the lines between law, morality, and human behaviour were constantly crossed.
The tour is led by a trained historian with academic background and museum experience, known for engaging, energetic storytelling and a strong passion for Bergen’s past.

VIKTIG INFORMATION
Please note that this historical walking tour requires a generally good level of physical fitness, as it involves walking on cobblestone streets and uphill sections. We kindly ask each participant to consider in advance whether they are able to comfortably take part before making a booking.
Your safety and your personal belongings remain your own responsibility throughout the tour, and we kindly ask you to stay mindful of them during the experience. The walk takes place in a lively urban environment and in varying weather conditions, so please dress comfortably and appropriately for the forecast.
To ensure a more personal and in-depth experience, groups are kept small, with a maximum of 12 participants. This allows for a more tailored approach and the opportunity to adapt the tour to your interests. We very much welcome your questions along the way and encourage you to take an active part in the conversation.
Your Tour Historian will meet you outside the fence of St. Mary`s Church, in the large open space to the left of the church`s main entrance (between the church and Bryggen Museum).
