Discover the Amazon rainforest on a 2-day, 1-night adventure from Puerto Maldonado and explore the natural surroundings of the Tambopata region.
Your experience begins with pickup at Puerto Maldonado Airport or the bus station. You will first visit the Monte Amazónico Lodge office for registration before heading to the Capitanía port. From there, take a boat ride of approximately one hour along the Madre de Dios River to reach the lodge. Upon arrival, enjoy a refreshing welcome drink made with local fruits and settle into your room.
After lunch, cross the Madre de Dios River by boat to Monkey Island, where you can observe monkeys living in their natural environment, including capuchin monkeys. Return to the lodge and, after sunset, take a nighttime boat excursion along the river to search for white caimans. With the help of a flashlight, you may spot their eyes reflecting in the darkness. You may also see capybaras near the riverbanks.
On the second day, enjoy breakfast before walking approximately 3 km through the tropical rainforest toward Lake Sandoval, located within the Tambopata National Reserve. Explore the lake by rowing boat and look for a variety of wildlife, including monkeys, sloths, shanshos, cormorants, jacanas, herons and other rainforest birds. With some luck, you may also encounter giant river otters and caimans in their natural habitat.
After the lake excursion, return to the lodge for a typical regional lunch. In the afternoon, take the boat back to Puerto Maldonado, where your tour ends with a transfer to the airport or bus station.

The tour includes boat transportation to and from the jungle lodge. Bring comfortable walking shoes, long pants, a long-sleeved shirt, insect repellent, sunscreen, a flashlight, a reusable water bottle, and a rain jacket.
The Lake Sandoval visit includes approximately 3 km of walking through the rainforest. Wildlife sightings are in their natural habitat and cannot be guaranteed.
