From Glasgow: 2-Day West Highland Line Self-Guided Rail Tour

Embark on a 2-day self-guided rail tour from Glasgow. Travel on the West Highland Line, stay overnight in Fort William, and explore the charming fishing port of Mallaig.
Begin your adventure in Glasgow and board the West Highland Line, heading west through Loch Lomond in the Trossachs National Park. Enjoy incredible views along one of the most scenic rail routes in the world as you make your way to the port of Oban.

Next, take a coach with spectacular views from Oban to Fort William, taking in a dozen different sea lochs along the way. Arrive in Fort William, known as the outdoor capital of Scotland, and stay the night in a hand-picked hotel.

The next day, travel via ScotRail along the spectacular route that takes you over the 21-arched Glenfinnan Viaduct to Mallaig – the iconic route to Hogwarts from the Harry Potter films. Enjoy a few hours in Mallaig, a charming fishing port at the end of the 'road to the Isles.'

Explore the lively town, do a circular walk around Mallaig that offers great views over the harbor and across Loch Nevis to Knoydart, and discover independent shops and lovely walks.

Finally, head back to the station to take the ScotRail train back inland to Fort William, retracing the rails of the iconic West Highland Line. Then, take the train back to Glasgow, crossing Rannoch Moor and skirting the shores of Loch Lomond.
