Haunted Highways is a 2.5–3 hour private, in-car ghost tour that leaves central York and plunges you into the pitch-black back roads of North Yorkshire. You’ll be picked up from an agreed point in or near the city, then settle into a comfortable car with eerie ambient music as The Highwayman does all the driving, storytelling, and scaring. This is an all-seated experience with no walking required, perfect for anyone who wants full-on chills without braving dark lanes on foot.

As you wind along lonely A-roads and B-roads, you’ll hear spine-tingling tales of vanishing hitchhikers who appear in the fog and disappear from the back seat, phantom monks drifting along roadside verges, spectral nuns glimpsed at the edge of your headlights, and ghostly children heard singing near old bridges and pylons. There are truckers’ stories of engines dying on cursed stretches, strange shapes crossing the carriageway, and drivers guided home by something they can’t explain. The route is chosen on the night to match the weather and mood, but always keeps to safe roads and finishes back in York.
