Learn to surf in Famara with JMC Surf Training, the school founded in 2012 by José María Cabrera, a professional surfer born in Caleta de Famara who reached 29th place in the world rankings in 2008. Our beginner area is led by Manuel Lezcano, a professional surfer from Lanzarote and the 2025 Spanish Big Wave Surfing Champion, who trained for years using the JMC Method.
Our team knows Famara and chooses the ideal area for your level every day, so you can learn calmly and confidently.
With the JMC Method, we don't just want you to stand up. We want you to understand what you're doing, spot your mistakes early, and correct them with clear progression, so that you come out of the water with a solid foundation to keep surfing.
The lesson starts on the sand, with a warm-up and an explanation of safety at sea, how to read the environment, and how to position yourself on the board. Then you'll practice paddling and taking off before entering the water. Once in the water, your instructor will be by your side, helping you choose the waves and correcting you with each attempt until you catch your first waves standing up.
You'll share the class with a group of people of a similar level, with real attention from the instructor on each attempt.
You can come alone, as a couple, with friends, or with family. You only need to know how to swim and have a desire to learn.

Meet at the JMC Surf Training School, at Calle Roque del Oeste, 13, Caleta de Famara. Come into the school and say your name or show us your booking: our team will greet you there and give you the gear before heading to the beach.
