Day 1: Tunis → Kairouan → Tamerza | Heritage & Traditional Cuisine

Depart from Tunis toward Kairouan, the spiritual heart of Tunisia and a key destination for traditional Tunisian gastronomy. Visit the Great Mosque of Kairouan and the Aghlabid Basins. Walk through the Medina, famous for its pastry shops and local food markets.

Enjoy a traditional lunch in a local restaurant featuring classic dishes such as Kairouan-style couscous or Ojja merguez (tomato and egg dish with spicy sausage). Finish with the iconic Makroudh of Kairouan, a semolina pastry filled with dates and soaked in honey.

Continue toward southern Tunisia. Check-in at Tamerza Palace Hotel. Have dinner at the hotel, inspired by regional mountain cuisine. Spend the night at Tamerza Palace.

Day 2: Tamerza → Chebika → Tozeur → Chott El Jerid → Sahara Camp

Start your day with a traditional breakfast with butter, jam, milk, coffee, and local bread. Walk through the oasis and natural springs. Enjoy mint tea infused with local herbs (eucalyptus) in a natural setting.

Arrive in Tozeur and taste local dishes such as Brick à l’œuf (crispy pastry with egg) and Jerid salad, prepared with local vegetables and spices. Cross the famous salt lake and stop for photos of the surreal landscapes.

Arrive at Dunes Insolites Desert Camp (Sabria). Enjoy a true highlight of the journey: sunset over the dunes, a folkloric and equestrian show, a demonstration of traditional bread baked in the sand, and an authentic Saharan dinner cooked on firewood, including traditional soup, meat cooked in a clay pot (gargoulette), fresh salad, brik, Deglet Nour dates, grown in the region, fresh desert bread, and traditional mint tea. Spend the evening around the campfire under the stars. Spend the night in the Sahara Desert.

Day 3: Sahara → Matmata → El Jem → Tunis

Have breakfast at the desert camp. Visit traditional troglodyte houses and learn about Berber food culture. Enjoy home-style Berber dishes such as rice or couscous, tabouna bread, local olive oil, and harissa.

Visit the El Jem Amphitheatre, one of the most impressive Roman monuments in North Africa. Return to Tunis in the evening.
