Chengdu Panda Base and Leshan Giant Buddha Tour

Take a day-trip to Chengdu Panda Base, Leshan Giant Buddha. Be escorted by an English-speaking tour guide.
You will be picked up from selected hotels in downtown Chengdu between 7:20 and 7:40 in the morning. Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda is a non-profit research and breeding facility for giant pandas as well as other rare animals. Founded in 1987 on Futou Shan, an almost barren hill, the base boasts research laboratory, animal hospital, panda cribs, playground, museum, kitchen, and a swan lake.  You will have plenty of photo opportunities, a bit of walking involved but opportunities to stop and rest.

You might have chance to see the newborn pandas sometimes, but do not guarantee.  You could even take a pic with a baby panda for a fee, as a donnation to support Panda reseach work at this Panda Base. You will explore the base till 11 in the morning before driving to Leshan. Upon arriving in Leshan, you will take a break for lunch which is at your own expense but your guide will give you ideas and recommendations.  Usually you will be asked for spicy/not too spicy.  Kindly remind local Chinese dishes might not be able to suit everyone, you might bring some food for lunch if necessary. After a lunch break, you will visit Leshan Giant Buddha, the tallest rock Buddha statue in the world and carved out of a cliff by monks in southern Sichuan province during Tang Dynasty (618–907AD). The Giant Buddha is overlooking at the confluence of Minjiang, Dadu, and Qingyi Rivers as well as the sacred Mount Emei. It is currently listed as World Heritage sites by UNESCO. Passengers need to vote for the choice of walking up to the Buddha (Plan A) or taking a boat ride (Plan B). You need to make an agreement for the whole team to do together. The visiting time only allows you to choose one option. Waterfront boardwalk at the Buddha's foot is under renovation on shoreline cliffs from 8th October 2018 to 4th February 2019. A boat ride to see the Giant Buddha will be arranged during this period (Plan B).

Hike the trail along the Buddha or take a boat ride to enjoy serene views till 16:00 before heading back to Chengdu.  Your tour will conclude at 18:30 at Tianfu Square, the largest square in downtown Chengdu surrounded by lots of good restaurants, tea houses, shops, and entertainment venues. Pick-up from the lobby of selected hotels as shown in the list, or you will be informed the nearest pick-up hotel to meet with your guide.

There is an optional 1.5 hours evening Sichuan Opera performance at a traditional tea house available at 8pm. The performance includes famous face changing, fire spitting, and lights rolling tricks by the performers along with puppet and hand-shadow impression shows. There are traditional Chinese musics playing while you sipping on a cup of Sichuan jasmine tea. You will be picked up from Tianfu Square and transferred back to your hotel after the show.  The optional cost is RMB$160/person for VIP seat; RMB$120 for regular seat.
