Djeu is a small uninhabited island just off the bay of Sal Rei. Because the island naturally blocks the ocean current, the water here is usually calm and clear, making it one of the best places to swim and snorkel on Boa Vista. Whether it's your first time or you've snorkeled all over the world, we'd love to share this beautiful little island with you.

If you've snorkeled in places like Egypt or Thailand, you'll notice Boa Vista is a little different. We don't have huge coral gardens, but we do have colourful tropical fish, volcanic reefs and a surprising variety of marine life. You'll most likely see schools of fish, pufferfish, parrotfish, sea stars, squid and, if we're lucky, even a sea turtle.

What can you expect?

Hotel pick-up
We'll pick you up from your hotel (of course). The evening before your tour we'll confirm your exact pick-up time. We always check the wind, currents and water clarity first, so we can choose the best time to go out. We'd much rather adjust our schedule than take you snorkeling when the visibility/conditions aren't optimal. If the conditions aren´t good or have to reschedule than you always 100% receive a full refund.

⛵ Boat trip to Djeu
From Praia Estoril we'll board a local fishing boat or RIB for the 10-minute crossing to Djeu. The ride is usually very calm, even for guests who are prone to seasickness. (Life jackets and all necessary safety equipment are always on board.)

Getting ready
We'll provide all snorkeling equipment, make sure everything fits comfortably and explain everything before we enter the water. If it's your first time snorkeling, don't worry—we'll stay with you and help you feel comfortable in the water.

The Small Reef
We'll start at the small reef. In this shallow water you see the healthiest coral around Djeu and plenty of small colourful fish. We'll snorkel here for about 30 minutes before relaxing on the island—or you can just keep snorkeling if you can't get enough.

The Big Reef
After a short boat ride we'll continue to the larger reef, where we often see less coral but a larger variety of fish; pufferfish, parrotfish, squirrelfish, seabream, sea stars and sometimes turtles. You'll have around 45–60 minutes to snorkel, while the boat always stays close by if you'd like a break.

️ Relax on Djeu
Explore hidden beaches, visit the old Fort Duque de Bragança, enjoy the views over Sal Rei or simply relax before heading back.

Back to Sal Rei
Before returning to your accommodation, we'll usually stop at Cremositos for an ice cream or give you some time to explore a few local shops.
