Discover a unique custom-made kimono fashion experience at Kanako Designs in historic Uraga, near Kamakura. Choose an authentic Japanese kimono and work with us to create a one-of-a-kind garment made especially for you.
1. Choose your garment
Choose from three main styles: a tunic, aloha shirt, or dress. We also offer many other designs. If you would like to discuss a different design, please select the tunic when making your reservation. We will discuss your preferred design with you during your visit.
2. Choose your kimono
Browse our selection of authentic Japanese kimono and choose the one you would like to transform into your own garment. We will help you consider the colors, patterns, fabric, and how the kimono design will look when remade.
3. Discuss your design
Together, we will discuss the design, silhouette, length, and details of your garment. If you selected the tunic for a custom consultation, this is when we can discuss other available designs and decide what you would like to have made.
4. Take your measurements
Once the design is decided, we will take the measurements necessary to create your garment so that it is made especially for you.
5. Your garment is made in Japan
After your visit, Kanako Designs will carefully remake your chosen kimono into your custom-made garment in Japan.
6. Receive your finished garment
Once completed, your one-of-a-kind garment can be shipped to your home. Shipping is not included in the experience price and is charged separately.
This is more than shopping for a souvenir. You take part in choosing the kimono and creating the design, while an authentic Japanese kimono is given a new life as a piece of fashion made especially for you.

Your custom-made garment will be created after your visit and will not be ready to take home on the day of the experience
The booking price includes one garment in your selected plan, made from one kimono chosen from our designated collection. Additional charges may apply if you select a kimono outside the designated collection, request a design or specifications other than the standard options, or require pattern adjustments due to size or design changes
Your finished garment will be available for store pickup or international delivery after completion, depending on your selected booking option. International shipping is included in the price of the delivery option
Free pickup from JR Kurihama Station is available by advance reservation. Please request pickup when booking
Please come directly to Kanako Designs. It is about a 2-minute walk from Konyacho Bus Stop. Look for a two-story building with a distinctive dark red roof and the “Kanako Designs” sign above the entrance. The shop is also located near the Uraga Ferry and Nishi-Kano Shrine.
