Gondar: 3-Day Simien Mountains Trek with Camping

Embark on a 3-day trek through the Simien Mountains from Gondar. Camp under the stars, spot wildlife, and enjoy breathtaking views of the high plateau and dramatic cliffs.
Day 1: Gondar to Sankaber (Trek Begins)

Begin your adventure with a pickup from your hotel or the airport in Gondar. Drive to Debark, register at the Simien Mountains National Park office, and meet your guide, scout, and cook. Continue by 4x4 to the trailhead at Buyit Ras.

Begin your trek from Buyit Ras to Sankaber. Spot your first gelada baboons, admire the dramatic cliff views, and enjoy lunch on the trail. Arrive at the Sankaber campsite (3,250m), rest, enjoy sunset views over the escarpment, and have dinner prepared by your cook. Spend the night camping at Sankaber.

Day 2: Sankaber to Geech Camp

After breakfast, begin a longer trek to Geech Camp. Highlights include Jinbar Waterfall, one of the tallest in Ethiopia, crossing deep gorges, and spotting klipspringers or raptors soaring overhead. Have lunch on the trail.

Reach Geech Camp (3,600m), with breathtaking views of the high plateau. In the evening, take an optional walk to Kedadit viewpoint for sunset. Spend the night camping at Geech Camp.

Day 3: Trek to Chenek and Return to Gondar

After an early breakfast, hike from Geech to Chenek. This stretch offers the best chance to see the Walia Ibex, Ethiopia’s endemic mountain goat. Reach Chenek (3,620m), have lunch, and meet your vehicle. Drive back to Gondar, arriving in the early evening.
