Thessaloniki through Myths and Legends Walking Tour

Explore Thessaloniki on a walking tour with a local guide. Learn about Greek mythology, the city's multicultural history, and visit a local food market to experience Greek daily life.
How did a city that was Byzantine, Ottoman and Jewish all at once become just "Greek"?
On this tour , we connect mythology to the places, traditions, and cultural references that still exist today. Whether you are already fascinated by Greek mythology or simply curious to learn more, these stories will help you understand an important part of Greek identity.

Beyond mythology, gain a deeper understanding of how immigration influenced the city's identity. Greeks, Jews, Ottomans, refugees from Asia Minor, and many other communities left their mark on Thessaloniki, creating the multicultural city you see today.

Learn how these influences shaped the city's architecture, food, traditions, and way of life. Visit the vibrant local food market and experience the colors, aromas, and energy that make Greek markets such an important part of daily life.

Discover a variety of local spices, herbs, seasonal produce, olives, and traditional ingredients used in Greek cooking. Learn how these ingredients are used in everyday meals, family recipes, and regional dishes. Observe daily life in action as locals shop, socialize, and continue traditions that have been passed down through generations.

Throughout the experience, hear personal stories and local perspectives that help bring the city to life. The pace of the tour is relaxed and flexible. Every traveler is different, and the experience is adjusted to suit the needs, interests, and comfort level of each group. Take necessary breaks, stop for photos, enjoy moments of conversation, and adapt the route when needed.

Please note that this experience focuses on the city itself, its stories, culture, and atmosphere.
