Join the Aurora hunt with Wandering Owl, in a small group of 8 guests, in Tromsø's countryside. Enjoy a warm soup by a campfire, learn night photography and participate in a citizen science project.
Join a small group of up to 8 guests on a hunt for the Northern Lights. Leave the light pollution of Tromsø behind and travel into the Arctic wilderness. When we find the best spot, we'll dress in warm thermal suits and boots, make a cosy campfire, and enjoy a homemade meal.
Your guide will decide the route based on the most up-to-date weather forecasts, sometimes driving all the way to the Finnish border. In the region, there are many different microclimates, so it is possible to find clear skies even when it is cloudy in Tromsø.
During your Aurora Hunt activity, you'll be shown how to use your camera and photograph the Aurora, and our guides will take photos of you, which are provided for free in web-sized resolution after the tour.
By joining us, you’re not only experiencing the magic of the Northern Lights but also helping protect the local environment!
We’re committed to conservation, regenerative travel, and protecting the Arctic nature. During our time together in the wilderness, we’ll follow a scientific method to collect valuable data for one of our citizen science projects. After gathering data, it’s uploaded to our research partners’ database, where it’s used in environmental studies and to guide our Responsible Tourism Project, where we work with other local tourism professionals.
Relax by the campfire with hot chocolate before returning to Tromsø to your selected drop-off location.

• Make sure you wear a warm base layer of winter clothes, including warm shoes, a hat, mittens, a scarf, and woolen socks
• Be prepared for limited toilet options. There will be a gas station stop during the drive; otherwise, you will have to use the forest
• Remember to charge the battery of your camera and, if possible, have an extra one with you
• A small amount of walking is involved in this tour
• Please inform the supplier in advance if you have any dietary allergies
• There is no guarantee of seeing the Northern Lights, but you will be with an experienced guide who will do their best to make sure you see them
Meet in front of Scandic Ishavshotel, Fredrik Langes Gate 2, 9008 Tromsø. Your guide will meet you in front of the main entrance.
