Join a guided walking tour of Rangitoto, Auckland’s largest volcanic cone and New Zealand’s youngest island. Begin your adventure with a ferry ride to the island, then set off on foot to explore rugged solidified lava fields and lava tubes, regenerating and mature native forest, including the world’s largest pōhutukawa forest, endemic bird life and spectacular views.

As you journey towards the summit, your accredited kaiārahi (guide) will share knowledge and stories of the geological and mythological forces that shaped the island, its unique plant and birdlife, fascinating history, and rich Māori heritage and mythology.

At the summit, enjoy magnificent panoramic views across Tāmaki Makaurau, Auckland and Tīkapa Moana, the Hauraki Gulf and islands.

Owned and operated by Ngāi Tai ki Tāmaki, Auckland’s original Māori inhabitant iwi (tribe) and tangata whenua (people of the land) of Rangitoto, this small-group guided walk offers an authentic, fun, and engaging exploration of one of New Zealand’s most celebrated natural landmarks.

Trip Information
Walk: 8km (approximately) | Time: 4 hours return (approximately) including ferry
- *Minimum age: 12 years old | *participants under 18 years of age must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian
- Check-in: 9am weekdays | 8:45am weekends and public holidays
- Depart: 9:30am weekdays | 9:15am weekends and public holidays
- Return 1:15pm pm weekdays
