Start your day with a drive south from Kampala to Kayabwe, the most famous Equator crossing point in Uganda. When you arrive at the Kayabwe Equator monument, stand in both the Northern and Southern Hemispheres at the same time.

Watch as your guide performs the classic water experiment to show how water swirls differently on each side of the line, and test your weight, which feels lighter right on the equator. Spend time browsing the craft stalls for Ugandan souvenirs, drums, fabrics, and carvings, and grab a photo at the painted Equator sign.

After lunch, head back to Kampala for a 3 to 4-hour walking tour of the city’s busiest and most iconic spots. First, visit the Gadaffi National Mosque, also called Kampala National Mosque. Climb the minaret for panoramic views over the 7 hills of Kampala, with the city skyline stretching out below you.

From there, walk down to Owino Market, one of East Africa’s largest second-hand markets. The energy is nonstop, with vendors selling clothes, shoes, fabrics, and everything in between. It is loud, colorful, and the best place to feel Kampala’s hustle.

Next, head to the Old Taxi Park, the chaotic heart of public transport. Watch hundreds of matatus and taxis loading passengers to every corner of Uganda while conductors call out destinations. It is organized chaos and a true Kampala experience.

Then, stroll to Nakasero Market for fresh produce, spices, fruits, and local snacks. The smells of ripe mangoes, matoke, and groundnuts fill the air, and you can pick up snacks for later.

The tour ends at the Independence Monument in the city center. The bronze statues capture Uganda’s journey to independence in 1962 and make for a powerful final photo stop.
