Step into one of the most fascinating chapters of Bucharest’s history and discover how the communist regime transformed the city. This guided scooter tour combines history, urban exploration, and adventure, offering a unique perspective on the legacy of the socialist era.

Begin your experience with a short 30-minute preparation and safety briefing. After getting comfortable with your easy-to-ride scooter (no driving licence required), you will set off with your guide to explore the city.

Ride through the wide socialist boulevards and monumental architecture that reshaped Bucharest during the rule of Nicolae Ceaușescu. Along the way, you will stop near some of the most important landmarks connected to the communist period, including the massive Palace of the Parliament, one of the largest administrative buildings in the world and the most famous symbol of Ceaușescu’s ambitious urban projects.

The tour continues to Revolution Square, where the dramatic events of December 1989 brought an end to the communist regime. Here you will see the former headquarters of the Romanian Communist Party, the building from which Ceaușescu delivered his final speech before fleeing by helicopter as the revolution unfolded.

You will also stop at the imposing Casa Presei Libere, once the center of communist propaganda and media control, whose architecture reflects the influence of Soviet-era monumental design.

To better understand everyday life during the socialist period, the tour includes a visit to a typical communist-era apartment block, where you will learn how millions of Romanians lived. Your guide will explain how apartments were assigned by the state, how daily life functioned under the regime, and how entire residential districts were designed to house workers.

Along the way, we’ll also stop at local markets and explore the striking contrasts between neighborhoods built for ordinary workers and the privileged areas once reserved for the communist elite. These contrasts reveal the social divisions that shaped everyday life during the regime.

Throughout the ride, your guide will share stories about propaganda, daily life under communism, and the dramatic political changes that transformed Romania in 1989.
