Travel Day: Hanoi to Ha Giang
Embark on a 6-7 hour bus ride from Mad Monkey Hanoi to Ha Giang, with a pit stop for refreshments. Upon arrival, check into your homestay and unwind, ready for the adventure ahead.
DAY 1: Ha Giang to Du Gia (~100km)
After breakfast at 7:30 am, begin your journey at 8:30 am. Travel the winding Bac Sum Pass, navigating hairpin curves and a newly opened path with breathtaking views. Depending on the weather, take a 700-meter trek to Khau Lan Waterfall for a refreshing swim.
Next, visit a café at Heaven’s Gate and hike to a viewpoint to admire Fairy Hills and the expansive landscapes of Tam Son, with its rice fields and mountains rising 1,000 meters. Enjoy lunch in Tam Son at noon, then head to Duong Thuong Village, home to the H’mong people, for photos. In the late afternoon, arrive at your destination and enjoy a traditional dinner at a local homestay, with the North's "Happy Water" beer.
DAY 2: Du Gia to Dong Van (~120km)
Visit a former French military post for photos, then stop at a café with views of terraced rice fields and limestone mountains. Lunch will be in Meo Vac at noon.
Next, take a boat trip along the Nho Que River to Tu San Alley, Southeast Asia's deepest canyon. Experience the beauty of Ma Pi Leng Pass, “The Road of Happiness,” and enjoy the scenic drive. Stop at Sky Walk for panoramic views, one of the highest points on Ma Pi Leng Pass.
Stay locally in Dong Van to fully appreciate the surrounding beauty.
DAY 3: Dong Van to Ha Giang (~140km)
After breakfast, visit the H’mong King’s Palace to learn about the H’mong hill tribe’s culture and history. Along the way, pass rocky outcrops, evidence of tectonic shifts. Stop for photos at Tham Ma Pass, famous for its cliffs and geosites, with a "try not to fall" challenge for those on bikes.
Lunch will be in Yen Minh at one of Ha Giang's oldest restaurants. Afterward, travel through stunning mountain passes, passing through villages where hemp crops blanket the hillsides. Explore ancient houses and immerse yourself in local culture.
Arrive back in Ha Giang city in the late afternoon and return to Hanoi by bus. The estimated arrival time in Hanoi is 11:00 p.m.
