From just outside the cruise ship port, join our walking tour of Bridgetown and explore the city’s rich history. Discover flying fish, sugar and slavery, pirates and prime ministers. Meet those who forged this nation and set its people free.

See the landmarks and memorials, but always with the story of the people at its heart. From the Amerindians and the early British settlers, from the enslaved Africans to those who helped steer Barbados to independence and beyond.

Learn about those who made this island and the city of Bridgetown what it is today. Jonathan, your guide, is a citizen of Barbados, a storyteller, researcher, and former BBC journalist whose work has been published around the world.

End your tour at a beach overlooking beautiful Carlisle Bay, where you can enjoy a cold beer and a swim.

Tour starts just 100 metres from Bridgetown port gates. Duration is approximately 2 hours.
Ends at a beach overlooking Carlisle Bay
Walk out of the main gate of the port along the seafront path with the ocean on your right. Jonathan will meet you at the end of the path, under the shade of some West Indian mahogany trees where the path turns left towards a set of traffic lights. Do not cross the road. The tour finishes at a beach overlooking Carlisle Bay where you can have a swim, find somewhere to get lunch and enjoy a cold drink. To get back to the port you have the option of a walk or taking a taxi.
