Discover North Stradbroke Island's wildlife, landscapes and Quandamooka culture on a small-group day trip from Brisbane, including a 90-minute cultural experience with Quandamooka man Matt Burns.
Discover the landscapes, wildlife and living Aboriginal culture of North Stradbroke Island (Minjerribah) on a small-group day tour from Brisbane, combining the island's natural highlights with a dedicated 90-minute Indigenous cultural experience with Quandamooka man Matt Burns.
Travel from Brisbane by private minibus and vehicle ferry before exploring the island with your local tour guide. Walk the spectacular North Gorge at Point Lookout (Mulumba), with sweeping coastal views and opportunities to spot kangaroos, dolphins, turtles and other marine life. From June to November, look out for migrating humpback whales from this incredible land-based vantage point.
Stop for lunch at a Point Lookout icon - The Prawn Shack, famous for its Straddie Prawn Roll. Enjoy their signature fresh prawn roll as a relaxed takeaway lunch overlooking beautiful Frenchmans Bay - a true taste of the island.
Continue to two special freshwater environments on Minjerribah. See the amber-coloured waters of Bummiera (Brown Lake), a naturally occurring perched lake of cultural significance to the Quandamooka People, before visiting Myora Springs (Capembah), a naturally flowing freshwater spring and wetland with a long connection to Quandamooka people and the island's Aboriginal history.
Later, Quandamooka man Matt Burns joins the group for an immersive 90-minute cultural experience on Quandamooka Country.
Begin with a Welcome to Country as Matt shares stories, knowledge and traditions passed through generations of his family. See cultural artefacts connected to his family lineage and experience demonstrations of traditional tools and techniques, including fire-making, spear throwing and boomerang use - with the opportunity to try throwing a boomerang yourself. Listen to Matt play the didgeridoo and discover the traditional use of natural ochres.
Walk along the foreshore and through native vegetation as Matt shares how generations of Quandamooka People have read the signs of Country and lived in connection with the land and sea. Learn how plants, flowers and seasonal changes can signal when particular food sources are available, and discover bush tucker, traditional medicines and how plants and natural materials have been used to make items such as soap and rope.
Your local tour guide accompanies you throughout the full day, while Matt leads the dedicated cultural experience.
With a maximum of 11 guests, return Brisbane transport, ferry travel, wildlife, local food and a meaningful Indigenous cultural experience all in one day, discover the landscapes and living culture that make Minjerribah so special.
