Beschreibung
Discover the history and culture of Hakata Old Town on a guided tour. Visit Kushida Shrine, explore the Hakata Machiya Folk Museum, enjoy a local lunch, and choose a hands-on cultural workshop.
Begin your tour at the Kushida Shrine, Fukuoka's most important Shinto shrine. Admire the luxurious "Kazari Yamakasa" floats on display throughout the year and feel the excitement of the festival up close. Explore the sacred spring known as the "Water of Longevity," the main hall dedicated to the guardian deity of Hakata, Ohatanushi no Mikoto, and the "Meoto Ebisu Shrine," a symbol of prosperity in business.
After enjoying a historical walk, head to the Hakata Machiya Folk Museum to introduce Hakata's lifestyle and culture. You can find a unique Hakata souvenir here. The store is lined with traditional crafts representing Fukuoka, such as Hakata-ori, Hakata dolls, Hakata hariko, Hakata magemono, and Hakata koma.
You can try local treats made with Fukuoka's famous strawberry "Amaou," or browse fans, towels, and stickers inspired by the Hakata Gion Yamakasa and Niwaka masks. The lineup is a perfect fusion of design and regionality.
We will stop for lunch, at a Fukuoka local restaurant. There are local dishes such as Fukuoka udon, Tendon (tempura don), Sushi, eel seiro-mushi, Hakata ramen and Hakata teppanyaki... depending on what you want to have! There are vegan options too.
After lunch, choose one experience from below:
1. Hakata Doll Painting Experience: Hakata dolls are traditional Japanese clay figurines from Fukuoka, known for their delicate, lifelike sculpting and vibrant, hand-painted details. The dolls use high-quality clay from Fukuoka to create it. You can paint your own Hakata doll it to bring it to life. Take your finished doll home as a souvenir.
2. Lantern Painting Experience (For this activity, booking of the tour must be made at least one week prior for reservation): Paint your own Japanese lantern with your favorite characters or illustrations. Lanterns are an indispensable feature of festivals, such as the numerous lanterns used in the Hakata Gion Yamakasa festival and the lanterns of the Hakata Dontaku Parade. Take your lantern home and enjoy its gentle light.
Finally, we will stop at a cafe at the end of the tour. There are some options here too. You can enjoy coffee at a nice cafe, or go to a Japanese tea shop for regional tea and traditional Japanese sweets.
