Beschreibung
Private full-day tour from Tokyo to Gyoda, Saitama: climb 1,500-year-old keyhole tombs, see the sword that named a king, and visit the town that made Japan's tabi socks.
Gyoda has two things that almost nowhere else in the Kanto region has together: a park of keyhole-shaped burial mounds you can actually climb, and a museum holding the iron sword whose inscription first named an ancient Japanese king in writing. This private full-day tour from Tokyo, up to six guests, takes in both.
We leave Tokyo around 09:00 for the roughly ninety-minute drive to Gyoda. The morning is spent at Sakitama Kofun Park, walking among grass-covered burial mounds built some 1,500 years ago, several of which you can climb for a view across the whole cluster. Inside the on-site Sakitama Museum is the object that makes this park nationally important: an iron sword recovered from one of the mounds, inscribed with characters that gave historians the first written name of a fifth-century Japanese king. After the mounds, we drive into Gyoda town, once the centre of Japan's tabi sock industry, for a walk past its old sock workshops and warehouses, with a stop near Oshi Castle for a photo of its reconstructed keep. Lunch is at your own choice in town.
Entry to the Sakitama Museum, with the inscribed sword, is included in your price, along with the van, driver-guide, fuel and water. The kofun park itself is a free public park with no ticket needed. Any lunch or shopping in Gyoda is your own cost.
This suits travellers interested in ancient history who want a site with an actual artefact to anchor the story, rather than mounds alone. The museum is closed on Mondays, so we avoid that day for this tour.
If any included stop, ticket or activity cannot run on your date because of weather, closure or availability, you can take a full refund of your booking, guaranteed; an equivalent alternative is offered only if you prefer it.

WICHTIGE INFORMATIONEN
Pickup is around 09:00, back in Tokyo by evening, about 8 hours door to door. The kofun mounds involve short, fairly steep grass climbs, so wear closed shoes with grip; the museum and town walk are flat. This runs year-round except Mondays, when the museum is closed. If it rains, the museum visit still runs fully; the mound climbs are done more carefully or shortened depending on ground conditions. If an included stop cannot run because of weather, closure or availability, you get a full refund, guaranteed; an alternative is offered only if you prefer it. We will send your pickup time and meeting details before the tour
