The Hall for Contemporary Art (Halle für aktuelle Kunst), the larger of the two spaces, is a masterpiece of early industrial architecture — its cathedral-like interior and glass roof create an atmosphere of light and openness, ideal for monumental installations and thought-provoking displays.

Since opening in 1989, the Deichtorhallen have showcased pioneering artists including Jeff Koons, Cindy Sherman, Gilbert & George, Ai Weiwei, and Marina Abramović, making it a cornerstone of Hamburg’s cultural landscape and one of Europe’s leading venues for the global avant-garde.
