Beschreibung
Ghosts, murders, and ancient grudges - take a walk through the Roman Empire’s darker alleyways. Expect curses, corpses, and some deeply questionable emperors.
Rome may be the Eternal City, but not everyone here rested in peace.
This is not your average ghost tour - no capes, no cheap jump scares, no pretending a drain cover is haunted. Instead, we’re diving into the real stories of Ancient Rome’s darkest corners: murders that rewrote history, deaths that left a stain, and places so cursed even the Romans avoided them.
You’ll walk through ruins and backstreets once soaked in blood and scandal. You’ll hear stories that made ancient historians blush - and centuries later, still raise eyebrows. From power-hungry emperors who didn’t see it coming, to well-connected women who may have helped things along, this is the kind of Roman history tour they definitely didn’t teach in school.
We’ll explore cursed staircases, haunted ruins, and neighbourhoods once filled with crime, brothels, and very bad decisions. You’ll learn what happens when an emperor offends the gods - or the staff. And why the Romans were very, very particular about burial rites… especially if they wanted their dead to stay that way.
Our stories are drawn from real Roman sources: writers like Suetonius, Tacitus, and Cassius Dio - men who knew their way around a good assassination and a juicy rumour. These weren’t ghost stories made up in the 19th century - they’re 1st-century gossip with an afterlife.
Led by expert guides with a flair for storytelling and a fondness for the macabre, this tour mixes real history, sharp humour, and the occasional chill in the air. You’ll never look at the Roman Empire the same way again. And that’s probably for the best.

WICHTIGE INFORMATIONEN
This is a walking tour focused on ghost stories and dark history from Ancient Rome. It does not include visits inside archaeological sites. The tour stays outdoors and involves around 2 km (1.2 miles) of walking, including some uneven ground and stairs.
Expect real stories, strange legends, and zero gimmicks — no costumes, no fake scares, and no sugar-coating. If you’re after theatrical haunted houses or jump scares, this isn’t the tour for you.
If, however, you enjoy dark tales, dry humour, and hearing the bits of Roman history most tours leave out… welcome to the Dark Side.
Your guide will be waiting for you at Largo di Torre Argentina, just in front of L’Antico Enoteca wine bar (because where better to begin a tour about death than next to a good drink?).
Look for someone holding a sign that reads:
“Ancient Rome’s Dark Side” - you’ll know it when you see it.
Please arrive at least 10 minutes before the start time. We love a dramatic entrance - but we can’t delay the tour for late arrivals. The ghosts wait for no one.
Lost? Running behind? Mildly cursed? Please let us know by phone or WhatsApp
