Discover the beauty and heritage of Japan on a 2-day private tour from Tokyo. Visit Matsumoto Castle, explore the Samurai Road and Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route, and enjoy 14000 history Zenkoji.
This private tour is offering a comfortable and personalized way to discover some of Japan's most iconic cultural and natural attractions.
Begin your adventure in Narai-juku, one of the best-preserved post towns along the historic Nakasendo Route. Known as the "Samurai Road," this route once connected Kyoto and Edo (present-day Tokyo) and was traveled by samurai, feudal lords, merchants, and pilgrims. Today, Narai-juku retains its original charm, with traditional wooden buildings dating back to the Edo Period and earlier.
Walk through its historic streets, admire traditional architecture, browse local craft shops, and enjoy lunch in a town that feels frozen in time.
Next, visit Matsumoto Castle, a National Treasure famous for its striking black exterior. It is home to Japan's oldest surviving original castle tower and is one of the country's finest examples of feudal-era architecture. Unlike many Japanese castles that were reconstructed, Matsumoto Castle has preserved its original structure for more than 400 years.
Your admission ticket is included, allowing you to explore the castle and learn about Japan's samurai history while enjoying views of the city and the Japanese Alps.
Afterward, stroll through Nawate Street, a charming shopping street near the castle. Nicknamed "Frog Street," it features traditional shops, local snacks, artisan goods, and a nostalgic atmosphere.
On the second day, experience the spectacular Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route. Starting from Ogizawa Station, travel through the Northern Japan Alps using electric buses, cable cars, and ropeways. Known as the "Roof of Japan," this world-famous route offers breathtaking mountain scenery.
A highlight of the journey is Kurobe Dam, the tallest dam in Japan. Surrounded by dramatic mountain landscapes, it is both an engineering masterpiece and one of the country's most impressive sightseeing destinations.
Continue to Murodo, the highest point of the Alpine Route at approximately 2,450 meters above sea level. Depending on the season, enjoy alpine greenery, colorful autumn foliage, or the famous Snow Corridor. Its pristine environment and panoramic mountain views make it one of Japan's premier alpine destinations.
The tour concludes at Zenkoji Temple, one of Japan's most important Buddhist temples with a history of more than 1,400 years. Zenkoji enshrines the Ikko Sanzon Amida Nyorai, a sacred image believed to be the oldest Buddhist statue in Japan. Known as an "Absolute Hidden Buddha" (Zettai Hibutsu), it is never shown to the public, adding to the temple's mystery and spiritual significance.
Explore the historic temple grounds, admire its magnificent architecture, and experience the peaceful atmosphere that has attracted pilgrims for centuries.
From the Samurai Road and Japan's oldest surviving castle tower to the breathtaking Japanese Alps and the sacred traditions of Zenkoji Temple.
