The coach leaves Sapporo Station around 10:40 and heads northeast into the heart of Hokkaido's snow country. Next comes Farms Chiyoda, a family ranch that transforms into a snow playground in winter. Spend about 100 minutes here. As dusk falls, the group arrives at Blue Pond for its famous winter illumination. Colored lights sweep across the snow-covered surface and climb the bare trunks of the surrounding larch trees. The final stop is Ningle Terrace in Furano, a woodland village of handcraft shops designed by writer So Kuramoto. In the evening the paths between the tiny wooden cottages light up, and snow-dusted trees frame each glowing window. Browse the shops for wind chimes, kaleidoscopes, wood carvings and candles — each made on site by resident artisans. You have about 60 minutes to wander.
