Beschreibung
Embark on a 5-day culinary adventure in Kenya. Forage for ingredients, learn to cook traditional dishes, and enjoy a scenic drive to the shores of Lake Victoria.
Day 1: Arrival and the Art of Fire
Arrive at an eco-camp in the foothills and enjoy a welcome drink of fresh, cold-pressed sugarcane juice. Attend a briefing on foraging ethics and fire safety before embarking on a sunset tea trek. Hike through a small-holder tea plantation, learning to identify and pick the perfect leaves.
Watch a local expert prepare a classic meal over a fire pit, using the tea leaves in a savory dish.
Day 2: The Forager's Feast
Transfer to the rich highlands of Kericho. With an expert guide, identify and harvest edible wild herbs, plants, and mushrooms. Create a communal "Forager's Lunch" from your findings, cooked over a portable stove in a forest clearing.
See the commercial side of tea production on a green tea factory tour. Assist in preparing a feast entirely from foraged and locally sourced ingredients, cooked over an open fire.
Day 3: Lake-to-Table
Take a scenic drive to the shores of Lake Victoria. Join local Luo fishermen (weather permitting) or visit the bustling Dunga Fish Market to select the day's catch. Learn to prepare traditional Luo dishes like whole grilled tilapia and kuon (finger millet bread) with a local family.
Share the meal you helped create with your homestay family, listening to stories of life on the lake.
Day 4: Brews and Traditions
Transfer to Naivasha, stopping at a banana farm en route. Learn the ancient art of making urwaga (banana beer) from a local expert. Cycle through smallholdings and farmland, stopping to sample wild fruits.
Check into a working organic farmstay and assist in preparing a farm-fresh dinner using produce harvested that day.
Day 5: The Organic Sendoff
Pick fresh vegetables and herbs from the farm for your farewell brunch. Cook and enjoy a spectacular final meal together. Take an optional gentle boat cruise on Lake Naivasha for bird watching and digestion. Reflect on your journey before checking out and beginning your transfer to Nairobi.
Important Note: Certain activities, such as joining the local fishermen on Lake Victoria, are weather-dependent.
