Beschreibung

Discover the secrets of Amazonian cacao on a guided tour from Puerto Maldonado. Enjoy a boat ride, harvest cacao pods, and create your own chocolate in a hands-on workshop.
Meet your guide in downtown Puerto Maldonado and walk to Capitanía Port. Board a traditional riverboat and enjoy a scenic 10-minute journey along the Madre de Dios River to Hacienda Herrera, one of the region’s most important agricultural estates.

Upon arrival, take a guided walk through the farm to learn about the history and development of Amazonian agriculture, cacao cultivation and production, citrus groves, and a variety of tropical fruits native to the region. Discover traditional farming and harvesting techniques.

During the visit, harvest cacao pods directly from the trees, open them, and taste the sweet, fresh pulp surrounding the beans. Next, head to the artisan kitchen for a complete bean-to-bar chocolate-making experience.

Learn each step of the traditional process, including selecting the cacao beans, roasting the beans to perfection, hand-peeling the roasted beans, crushing the cacao nibs, and grinding the cacao using a traditional hand-operated mill. Transform the cacao into rich chocolate paste.

Once the chocolate paste is ready, customize your own chocolate using ingredients such as honey, sugar, panela (unrefined cane sugar), Amazonian Brazil nuts, shredded coconut, and other seasonal local ingredients. Make approximately 250 grams of handcrafted chocolate, which can be packaged and taken home as a unique souvenir of this Amazonian experience.

Before returning, enjoy a tasting of cacao tea while learning about the nutritional properties and traditional uses of this remarkable Amazonian fruit. Finally, travel back by boat along the Madre de Dios River and walk to the office in Puerto Maldonado, bringing this immersive cacao journey to a close.
