Discover Tamsui and Beitou on a guided walking tour. Explore Tamsui’s riverside history and Fort Santo Domingo, then uncover Beitou’s hot spring heritage at Thermal Valley and its historic museum.
Explore two of northern Taipei’s most distinctive districts on a guided walking tour combining Tamsui’s riverside history with Beitou’s famous hot spring heritage.
Begin outside Tamsui MRT Station and walk along the lively waterfront. Enjoy views of the river and Guanyin Mountain while learning how Tamsui developed from a small settlement into one of northern Taiwan’s most important international ports.
Hear about the Spanish, Dutch, Qing, British, Japanese, and modern Taiwanese influences that shaped the town’s history, architecture, and cultural identity.
Continue to Fort Santo Domingo, one of Tamsui’s most important historical landmarks. Enter the complex and discover its defensive structures, red-brick buildings, and old cannons. The visit also includes the Former Residence of the British Consul, where you can explore its elegant colonial architecture and learn about Britain’s diplomatic presence in Tamsui. Discover how the complex changed throughout different periods of Taiwan’s history.
After visiting the fort, return to Tamsui MRT Station through Tamsui Old Street. Experience its lively atmosphere, traditional shops, local snacks, and historic streets before traveling approximately 30 minutes by MRT from Tamsui to Xinbeitou.
In Beitou, walk to Thermal Valley, where naturally heated water and sulfurous steam create one of the district’s most recognizable landscapes. Learn about the geothermal activity beneath Beitou and how the area became Taiwan’s best-known hot spring destination.
Continue to Puji Temple, a peaceful Buddhist temple surrounded by greenery. Discover its Japanese-era history, architectural details, and connection with the development of Beitou’s hot spring district.
Visit the Beitou Hot Spring Museum, a preserved former public bathhouse. Explore its historical architecture and learn about Japanese bathing culture, local tourism, and the role hot springs played in Beitou’s transformation.
Finish with a walk through Beitou Park before ending outside Xinbeitou MRT Station.
