Beschreibung

Explore Uzi Island and the Pete Delta on a guided tour from Kizimkazi. Enjoy a home-cooked lunch at a permaculture farm, spot Red Colobus Monkeys, and swim in crystal-clear waters.
Embark on a true Robinson Crusoe adventure, away from crowded beaches, to beautiful areas that are rarely seen by tourists. This tour is immensely dependent on tide and wind conditions.

Leave the beach in front of Mama Root and head along the rugged Southern coastline to your first stop at a deserted beach on Uzi Island. During low tide, Uzi is accessible by car via a very rough track; at other times, by boat only. The island is still quite untouched by tourism and modern times in general; most of the inhabitants are fishermen and peasants, as they have always been.

Bypass the village and venture through a long-forgotten coconut palm plantation into the mangroves, where you might spot shy Red Colobus Monkeys who will be surprised about your visit. Simply enjoy their presence in silence.

Continue slowly to the Pete Delta. Its shallow, crystal clear waters serve as a “nursery” for a variety of fish and sea creatures. In order not to disturb this precious ecosystem with an outboard engine boat, use instead a “mtumbwi”, a small outrigger canoe.

Stop at a small permaculture farm. Here, amidst the lush and harmonious surroundings, be served a tasty home-cooked lunch, learn about the permaculture philosophy and see how environmentally friendly clay huts are being built. You may also lay hands on the farm’s well.

On your way back through the delta, pass interesting rock formations that are reminiscent of ancient ruins. If you like, enjoy a refreshing swim and snorkel here or – depending on the tides - at the lovely Pungume sandbank, before heading back to Kizimkazi.
