Beschreibung
Livingstone, Zambia’s tourism capital, blends colonial charm with vibrant culture. Once the country’s capital, it’s now the gateway to Victoria Falls, the Zambezi River, and unforgettable adventures.
Livingstone, often called the tourism capital of Zambia, was founded in the early 20th century and named after the famous Scottish explorer Dr. David Livingstone, who made the Victoria Falls known to the outside world in 1855.
The city grew rapidly after the construction of the Victoria Falls Bridge in 1905, becoming a hub for railway transport and trade in the region. In 1911, Livingstone was declared the capital of Northern Rhodesia (modern-day Zambia) and remained so until the capital was moved to Lusaka in 1935.
During its colonial period, Livingstone developed elegant public buildings, wide streets, and a strong administrative presence. Even after losing its capital status, the city remained important due to its proximity to Victoria Falls and cross-border trade with Zimbabwe.
Today, Livingstone is a lively city blending colonial heritage with modern tourism, home to museums, historic architecture, cultural markets, and the gateway to the Zambezi River and Victoria Falls.
This guided experience is a walking tour through the historic heart of Livingstone. Guests will explore the city on foot, discovering local markets, colonial-era buildings, vibrant street life, and key heritage sites. Along the way, we make several stops at important landmarks where you’ll learn about the city’s culture, people, and rich history. It’s an immersive way to see Livingstone up close and experience its authentic daily rhythm.
