This tour is perfect for travelers curious about how cities evolve—and how Yerevan tells its story through buildings. You'll be guided by Elen, a local young architect with a Master's degree from The Bartlett School of Architecture (UCL, London), passionate about revealing Yerevan’s hidden architectural layers and urban stories.
Tour Highlights:
1. Persian influence:
We will begin our tour in the historical Kond district, exploring the 17th-century streets and experiencing the authentic ambiance of old Yerevan. From there, we'll proceed to the Blue Mosque, an architectural gem reflecting Persian influence on the city.
2. Tsarist era:
Continuing our tour, we'll visit the Mirzoyan Library, an epic building from the Tsarist era, showcasing a mix of neo-classical and Art Nouveau styles.
3. Neo-classicism:
The Republic Square, a symbol of Yerevan's independence, awaits next, with its grand buildings and enchanting Singing Fountains, designed during by Alexander Tamanyan (the chief architect of urban planning of modern Yerevan) in the 1920s.
4. Soviet Modernism:
From The Republic Square will take the metro, so discover 2 stations- Metro Republic square and Metro Yeritasardakan.
5. Modern icon of Yerevan:
Our final destination is the inspiring Cascade complex, a monumental staircase linking downtown Yerevan to the hilltop neighborhoods. From its terraced platforms, you'll enjoy breathtaking views of Yerevan and Mount Ararat (if the weather is good).
6. Coffee and urban discussions:
At the end of the tour we'll head to Lumen Coffee 1936, a charming café located near the Cascade. Here, you'll have the opportunity to relax and enjoy a cup of coffee. This place holds a fascinating history as it used to be an old tobacco shop. During this time, you can engage in discussions with the guide about urban issues, contemporary architectural challenges, or any other questions you may have about Yerevan.
