Discover the wonders of Bolivia and the Aymara route in Peru on a 3-day adventure from Puno. Explore the city of La Paz, visit the Salar de Uyuni, and see the Aymara route with a guide.
Day 1:
Start your journey at 9:00 AM with a pickup from a meeting point in Puno. Cross the border into Bolivia and enjoy a relaxing lunch (at your own expense) on the way to La Paz, where you'll arrive at around 3:00 PM.
Explore the city's famous cable car and take a guided tour of the colonial neighborhood, including the Church of San Francisco and Plaza Murillo. See the Cathedral of Our Lady of La Paz and the Legislative and Government Palace. After some free time for dinner, board the overnight bus to Uyuni.
Day 2:
Arrive in Uyuni early in the morning and enjoy breakfast at a local restaurant. Hop into a 4x4 and head to the Salar de Uyuni, the world's largest salt desert. On the way, visit the Uyuni Train Cemetery and the town of Colchani to learn about salt extraction and see the Hotel Playa Blanca, known for its salt infrastructure.
Enjoy a traditional regional lunch before exploring the Salar de Uyuni and Isla Incahuasi, known for its giant cacti. After some free time for photos, return to Uyuni for dinner and shopping before taking the overnight bus back to La Paz.
Day 3:
Arrive in La Paz at 5:00 AM and transfer to Desaguadero to cross back into Peru. Enjoy breakfast before heading to the Aymara route. Start in Pomata to see the colonial church of Santiago Apóstol, then explore Juli, known as Little Rome for its numerous religious buildings. Visit the church of San Juan de Letrán or the church of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción, depending on availability.
Next, visit the Portal of Aramu Muro, also called the Door of the Gods, a historic-mythological place carved into the rock. Visitors who have placed their hands on the small door comment that they feel a great energy flowing through their bodies and have strange visions and musical sounds that they describe as "rhythmic, unusual, and extraordinary." Today, the portal is visited by believers who follow the theory of the "Great White Brotherhood."
Then, visit the archaeological site of Molloko, a funerary center that corresponds to the Late Intermediate Lupaka period (pre-Inca period) and the Late period (Inca period), where the contact and fusion of the Inca and Lupaka cultures are evident.
Last stop: Chucuito, where you'll find the Solar Clock in the main square, which marks the time according to the shadow that covers its lower part, the church of the Assumption, and the green Missionary Cross. Say goodbye to Chucuito by visiting the Inkauyo, the Temple of Inca Fertility.
Conclude your trip with a return to Puno.
