Description
Discover the raw beauty of the Altiplano. Traverse the world's largest salt desert, witness the vibrant colors of remote lagoons, and relax in volcanic springs on this professional 3-day expedition.
Day 1: Giant Cacti and the White Desert
Your expedition begins with a professional pick-up from the Airport, Bus Terminal, or your Downtown Hotel. Our first stop is the historic Train Cemetery, where you can see 19th-century steam locomotives. We then continue to Colchani to observe the traditional salt extraction process and visit the local handicraft market.
The journey takes us into the heart of the Uyuni Salt Flats, the largest salt desert on Earth. We will visit the Salt Museum, the Dakar Monument, and the Flags of the World. After a short hike among the giant cacti of Incahuasi Island, we will enjoy a unique Sunset Toast with a glass of wine. The day ends at a local salt hostel for dinner and rest.
Day 2: High Altiplano Lagoons and Wildlife
After breakfast, we head south toward the Eduardo Avaroa National Reserve. We will pass through the Chiguana Desert and reach viewpoints for the Ollagüe Volcano. Our route continues through the "High Plateau Lagoons": Cañapa, Hedionda, and Honda, where you can spot three species of Andean flamingos in their natural habitat.
We then enter the Siloli Desert to photograph the famous Stone Tree, a natural rock formation carved by wind erosion. The day’s climax is the spectacular Red Lagoon (Laguna Colorada), famous for its deep red waters and thousands of flamingos. We will spend the night at a basic mountain lodge.
Day 3: Volcanic Activity and Hot Springs
We start very early to visit the Sol de Mañana Geysers, a volcanic area with bubbling mud pools and sulfur fumaroles at 5,000 meters above sea level. Afterward, you can enjoy a relaxing soak in the Polques Hot Springs, surrounded by the cold Andean landscape.
The journey continues to the Dali Desert, known for its surreal rock formations, and the stunning Green Lagoon at the base of the Licancabur Volcano. Finally, we begin our return trip to Uyuni, passing through Villa Mar and the Valley of the Rocks. We will arrive back in the city at approximately 5:00 p.m., ending the adventure at the location of your choice.
Private room upgrades with private bathrooms are available upon request for an additional cost, subject to availability.
