Paraty: Mamanguá Fjord Kayak and Hike Day Trip

Embark on a full-day kayaking and hiking adventure in Mamanguá Fjord. Paddle through Brazil's only tropical fjord and hike to the summit of Pão de Açúcar do Mamanguá.
Begin your adventure at Paraty-Mirim Beach Pier, about 25 km south of Paraty's historic center. Meet your ACA Level 3 certified guide, who will lead a safety briefing and paddling instruction before setting out. No prior kayaking experience is required, but participants must be comfortable with sustained physical effort over a full day.

The first paddle covers 5 km along the coastline, past mangrove forests, rocky outcrops, and sheltered coves to Guardamó Beach for a rest stop. From there, cross the Mamanguá channel — 7.5 km through the heart of the tropical fjord.

The fjord narrows between steep forested mountains rising from the water, creating a landscape that feels utterly remote. Frigatebirds soar overhead, dolphins occasionally appear, and the only sounds are your paddle strokes and the wind. Arrive at Cruzeiro Beach having completed 15 km of paddling.

At Cruzeiro Beach, secure the kayaks and begin the trek: 1.5 km one way climbing steeply through dense Atlantic Forest to 450 meters. The ascent takes about one hour over uneven terrain with exposed roots and scrambling sections near the top.

The summit rewards with an unobstructed 360-degree panoramic view — the emerald fjord corridor, surrounding rainforest mountains, deserted beaches, and the open Atlantic beyond. Widely regarded as the most impressive viewpoint in the Paraty region.

Descend back to Cruzeiro Beach for swimming and an optional lunch at local caiçara restaurants — authentic coastal cuisine by traditional fishing communities. Lunch is not included and paid on-site. The return paddle passes Engenho Beach for a final swim before arriving back at Paraty-Mirim around 17:00.

This excursion you can cancel with no cost up to 24 hours before the start of the trip. If you cancel it after 24 hours or not show up on the excursion you will still be charged the full price of the activity. Being late on pick-up or departure will be considered as not showing up.
