Description

Discover new places around Plovdiv and spend a lovely few hours in the Bulgarian Mountains and fresh air.
The fortress was built in the 13th century by the Bulgarian Tsar Ivan Asen II, who named it in honour of his father, Asen. The fortress played a key role in defending the region from invading armies, and it was strategically located on an important trade route between the Black Sea and the Aegean Sea. Today, visitors to Asen’s Fortress can explore the ruins of the fortress walls, towers, and gates, and marvel at the breathtaking views of the Rhodope Mountains and the surrounding countryside. The fortress is located at an elevation of 279 meters above sea level, and the climb to the top can be steep and challenging, but the views are well worth the effort.
The Aviation Museum was founded in 1991 and it presents the development and the achievements of the Bulgarian aviation. One of the most interesting collections in the Aviation Museum is dedicated to Asen Hristov Yordanov. This is the creator of the first airplane built in Bulgaria. A model of this plane can be seen in the museum. One of the museum attractions is the option for its visitors to take pictures in the cabin of an authentic training military plane Mig 15 of the 1950s
