Asen's Fortress, also known as Petrich Fortress, is a medieval fortress located in the Rhodope Mountains of Bulgaria, near the town of Asenovgrad. The fortress occupies a strategic position atop a rocky hill overlooking the Asenitsa River Valley, providing a commanding view of the surrounding landscape.

Originally constructed during the reign of the Byzantine Empire in the 9th or 10th century, Asen's Fortress underwent significant expansion and fortification during the Second Bulgarian Empire in the 13th century, particularly during the rule of Tsar Ivan Asen II. It was during this period that the fortress gained its current name.

Founded in 1083 by the Georgian military commander Gregory Pakourianos, the Bachkovo Monastery has a rich history spanning over a millennium. Originally established as a Georgian Orthodox monastery, it later came under Bulgarian Orthodox control and flourished during the Second Bulgarian Empire.

The monastery complex consists of several buildings, including churches, residential quarters for monks, and administrative structures. The most notable architectural feature of the monastery is the Church of the Virgin Mary, also known as the Assumption of the Holy Mother, which was constructed in the 14th century and later expanded and renovated in the 17th century.
