Description

Explore all ancient temples built in Pre-Angkorian and Angkorian Period. Take in the spectacular views of the mountain temple of Chisor. Spend more time exploring the area with this full day tour.
Pick up at hotel and transfer to Phnom Da, built on the top of a small hill with about 100 steps to reach in the 5-6th century by King Rutravarman, who reigned during the Norkor Phnom period. This was the 1st Khmer Capital City of Chenla Teuk Lich ( Lower Chenla ). Later on the capital moved to Prasat Sombo Preikouk in Kompong Thom province, Chela dei kork, higher ground... After that the capital changed to Siem Reap province and so on. Despite being a very old temple, the appearance of the exterior is well maintained. This site is historically significant. There is evidence of human habitation from at least 400BCE and the present temple (11th century) stands on the footprint of an earlier temple (5-6th century). There are important caves, one of which has the Yoni pedestal for a missing Shivalingam. On the other side of the hill is the Asram Maharishi, and although the original deity is long gone, it is currently a venerated shrine in the memory of a great sage. Next, we visit Ta Prohm, built by King Jayavarman VII on the site of a 6th century Khmer shrine. You’ll see the main sanctuary which consists of five chambers, each with a lingam inside, and marvel at the tree that grows on and around the temple structure. We’ll then visit a temple surrounded by legend, Yeay Peau temple, named after King Ta Prohm’s mother. After that, we’ll head to Prasat Neang Khmao, the temple of the Black Virgin. Finally we keep going to visit Phnom Chisor, a popular ancient temple and contemporary monastery site located around 50 km south of Phnom. The ancient temple is quite large and wondrous, built on the hillside with a spectacular staircase that leads down to two entrance pavilions down on the plains below with the outer pavilion some 700 m away to the east which is further preceded by an ancient basin. Back to Phnom Penh and drop off.
