Description

Explore Medellín through Botero's art on a 3-hour tour. Start at the Museum of Antioquia, visit Plaza de Botero, and end at San Antonio Park. Guide available for assistance.
During this 3-hour excursion, you'll delve into the essence of Medellín and Colombia by exploring the life and legacy of the renowned contemporary artist Fernando Botero as you stroll through downtown Medellín.

Commencing at the Museum of Antioquia, home to one of the world's largest collections of Botero's works, you'll encounter his distinctive artistic flair, characterized by exaggerated proportions and distortions that serve as vehicles for his humor, irony, and social critique. Led by a knowledgeable guide, you'll traverse the museum's halls adorned with 108 of Botero's iconic paintings.

Medellín, being Botero's birthplace, boasts a profusion of his sculptures and artwork throughout the city. With over 90 sculptures scattered across the "City of Eternal Spring," your next stop will be the Plaza de Botero, an engaging outdoor gallery showcasing bronze sculptures conceived as part of a revitalization initiative in 2004, inviting viewers to engage intimately with Botero's creations.

Continuing your journey, you'll meander through Parque Berrío, a bustling hub of local activity in Medellín, where you'll encounter the striking frescoes by Pedro Nel Gómez, a mid-20th century Colombian artist, sculptor, and engineer, depicting the city's developmental narrative in his distinctive artistic style.

Your final destination is San Antonio Park, where you'll encounter the poignant "Pájaro de Paz" (Bird of Peace), a sculpture tragically destroyed by an explosion orchestrated by the FARC in 1995, resulting in numerous casualties. Botero responded by donating an exact, unscathed bronze replica of the bird, while insisting that the shattered original remain as a memorial bearing the names of the victims. Upon concluding your visit to San Antonio Park, your guide will assist you in arranging transportation back to your hotel, onward to your next destination, or to a nearby recommended spot for lunch.
