Description

Enjoy a wonderful hike along trails surrounded by tropical forest that will take you to the top of an active volcano in Costa Rica. During sunny days you can enjoy an incredible view of the crater.
The Poas is a volcano that rises to 2,708 metres above sea level, since 1989 has increased markedly the emission of gases causing acid rain phenomena that have damaged the flora in some sectors of the Park and surrounding agricultural plantations to the area. At the top there are two craters, the principal of 1.5 km in diameter and 300 deep. Today the volcano emits large amount of gas and water vapor from the different fumaroles that are located in the inner cone of the crater.

Poas Volcano is active and not only has one of the largest craters in the world, but is located in the forests of Central Mountain Range. Being located in the province of Alajuela, it offers visitors easy access from major cities of the country.

This place lets you explore its attractions through a network of trails, especially in a cold climate tempered by a faint drizzle that most of the year is imposed.

As the guide and transport are not included, you will need to drive by yourself to the National Park. Once you are there at the time booked, please wait in the line of cars until it is your turn. After parking, walk to the amphitheater, where our park rangers will give you a safety briefing and tell you more about the volcano.

When should I book?

To guarantee availability book as soon as possible. Early booking is worth consideration especially if you planning the trip during high season like public holidays or weekends.


Cancellations

This excursion you can cancel with no cost up to 24 hours before the start of the trip. If you cancel it after 24 hours or not show up on the excursion you will still be charged the full price of the activity. Being late on pick-up or departure will be considered as not showing up.
