Step inside this UNESCO-listed classical garden after dark, when illuminated pavilions, courtyards, ponds, windows, and traditional architecture create an entirely different atmosphere from a daytime visit.
The Master of the Nets Garden is celebrated for its compact yet sophisticated design, combining residential architecture, courtyards, water, rockeries, plants, and carefully framed views within a relatively small space.
During the Night Garden experience, explore the garden while traditional performances take place in different halls, pavilions, and courtyards along the route.
Depending on the evening’s program, encounter performances inspired by Kunqu Opera, Suzhou Pingtan, traditional instrumental music, local opera, dance, and other Jiangnan performing arts.
Rather than watching one long performance from a fixed theater seat, move through the historic garden and discover different cultural performances as part of the nighttime route.
One of the best-known highlights is Kunqu Opera, one of China’s oldest surviving forms of opera and an important part of Suzhou’s cultural heritage.
