Our 3 Days Danakil Depression tour is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to witness the mesmerizing beauty of Ethiopia's unique landscapes, volcanoes, hot springs, and salt flats.
Day 1: Mekelle - Hamed Ela
We wait for you at Mekelle airport at 9:00 am and the trip departs from here to Hameela via Berhale. Berahle is a small town in the Afar region with a population of about 10000 people where we stopped for lunch, to finalize the permit, and to take the scout and police. Danakil has favorable conditions, rocky coast, sustenance, and uncomfortable place, unpleasant and not offering hospitality regions of the world. Still, it has many enchanting natures and different kinds of colors with elements rich in minerals with a lot of salt water springs, and bubbling oil lakes. It has different places with different points of altitudes below sea level. They are lying more than 100 meters below sea level. After you eat your lunch in the town Berahle and proceed to Hamed Ela, on the way you will see different outstanding landscapes and the local people’s culture and their beautiful way of life style. Taking your sun set time in the salt lake Assale (-120 below sea level) and camping at Hamed Ela.
Day 2: Hamed Ela- Dallol - Erta Ale
Early morning drive to Dalol this is only 20 km from the campsite. You drive to each site with only less than 20 min walk to the Dallolmountain which has many different water springs. The sulfur lake, oil lake, salt mining area with camel caravans, salt mountains etc. You look all the sites and watch how the salt digging from a ground and loaded to camels in the mining place. And visit each places following the guides and with the local people knows the place very well. Then you will be back to the campsite at HemedEla for lunch. After lunch proceed to the miracle volcano Erta ale. This will be crossing the desert which is 90km it was one of the worst roads on earth only this year an asphalt road is made and reduced the drive to only two hours and this road takes you to the bottom of the mountain this reduces the more than three hours walk to just about 30 minutes’ walk. This is give you a chance to see and take photo of the whole crater and the lava before sunset and you can visit the lava activities on the night time, you will sleep 200m away from the volcano (there is a top Mountain lies above 613 above sea level).Overnight on the top of the mountain on prepared small huts.
Day 3: Erta Ale - Afdera - Mekelle
Early morning at 5:00am, you will see the striking activities of the volcano on the sun rise time. You will walk 30 minutes back to the place the cars parked waiting using all your staffs. You will pass with scattered small dessert trees and an igneous rock from the many years’ eruption of the volcano. after an hour drive you reach at lake afdera, here you can swim in the salt lake and wash in the hot springs around the lake you can also see locals working on the salt mines. Then you drive 3 hours to Mekelle to catch your flight to Addis.
