Visit the city-commune of Aix-en-Provence, a settlement located 19 miles (30 kilometers) outside of Marseille, on a 4-hour sightseeing tour. While driving along the Mirabeau Court, decorated with fountains and bordered by 17th and 18th century private mansions, you will enter the heart of Aix-en-Provence.
You will discover the architectural wealth of the city while driving by the many fountains, which give Aix-en-Provence its nickname as "the city of a thousand fountains." Pass by the Fountain of the Four Dolphins, or others depicting scenes such as Good King René. Pass by Place d'Albertas and the Place des Trois-Ormeaux, squares located in the older part of town, and see the tree-lined street of Cours Mirabeau. Then visit the Romanesque, Gothic, and Neo-Gothic Cathédrale Saint-Sauveur d'Aix. This cathedral is also a national monument of France.
Continue on to join a workshop dedicated to the Post-Impressionist artist, Paul Cézanne. Afterward, you will have time to stroll through the shady squares, or, on Tuesdays, walk through the weekly open-air market.
