Description

Escape Tbilisi for a journey into the wild west of Georgia. Explore the turquoise waters of Martvili Canyon, wander through the magical halls of Prometheus Cave,
Martvili Canyon: The Emerald Gorge

Our first stop feels like stepping into a prehistoric fairy tale. Martvili Canyon was once the private bathing quarters of the noble Dadiani family, and it’s easy to see why they kept it for themselves. The Abasha River has spent millennia carving a path through the limestone, creating a 2.4-kilometer gorge draped in thick, neon-green moss and hanging vines.

The highlight here is undoubtedly the boat trip. You’ll board a small inflatable raft and glide over water so clear and turquoise it looks painted. As you paddle between the 30-meter-high cliffs, the world outside vanishes, replaced by the sound of dripping water and the cool mist of hidden cascades. After the boat ride, we’ll walk the stone-paved "Dadiani Path," crossing bridges that hang over 12-meter-high waterfalls. It is a place of profound, humid beauty that feels completely disconnected from the modern world.

Prometheus Cave: A Subterranean Masterpiece

Next, we head to Prometheus Cave, the largest and most impressive cave system in Georgia. Discovered in 1984, this underground labyrinth consists of 22 massive chambers, six of which are open to us. As you descend into the earth, you are greeted by a surreal landscape of "petrified waterfalls," towering stalactites, and delicate cave pearls, all beautifully enhanced by soft, multicolored LED lighting and classical music that echoes through the halls.

The scale is staggering—some halls are large enough to house a small cathedral. You’ll walk nearly 1.5 kilometers through the "Hall of Argonauts" and the "Medea Hall," named after the legends of the Golden Fleece that originated in this very region. To finish the experience, we can take an underground boat ride along a subterranean river, emerging back into the daylight through a hidden exit in the cliffside. It’s a silent, awe-inspiring journey through millions of years of geological history.
